The setting for the days event was the pitch placed in the windy planes of Cranleigh sports club, Thames Ditton.
It was also later revealed by our very own Sgt. Sideline Netty Butt that said pitch was adorned with Greek god like men wrapped in rugby shirts.
But back to the hockey, we began the game all looking rather windswept and interesting but ready to play our game. The advice before the game was simple the best way to get to them is to win, nothing will annoy them more.
Already brightened by the delivery from our very own cheese santa we started the game very strong with some very quick thinking and passing from the midfield and up to the forwards leaving the oppo scrambling around looking for the ball.
The first half came and went and we had unfortunately been unable to get past the vamps defence and secure a goal. The half time talk was simple, keep it up and score goals. Nothing more needed to be said.
The approach to the second half was somewhat more aggressive with the forwards (including newcomer Terri who had a fab game on her debut for the club) working hard to find fantastic positions to receive the ball from the hardworking midfielders and some mega defending from the backs consisting of myself, Pav, Vicky and super sweeper for the day el capitan Robbo. Who had taken the pre match advice very seriously and marked their increasingly irritated opponents viciously with multiple interceptions and stunning tackles.
The oppo seemed to have had a similar half time talk also coming back more aggressively, but no matter how hard they tried the combination of Mrs B, keeper extraordinaire and her faithful defenders in front of her they did not prevail in getting a goal of their own either.
The game unfortunately ended up with no goals for us but more importantly none for them. So after the game we parted on pleasant terms and enjoyed some amazing teas.
Special thanks go to Rob Fullerton-Batten for brilliant umpiring and our devoted supporter and sub coordinator Netty Butt.
