COWHC Ladies 2s vs Oxted Ladies 3s - 30th Sept 2017

At Whatevers' request the match report is in the style (loosely) of Jilly Cooper!

And so arrived the 3rd league Saturday of the season! Feeling confident after a fine win the week before, the COWs Ladies 2s woke up early. It was bants central on what's app on 2 fronts 1. Who stole our new white shirts from Nicky's back passage and 2. Who was the biggest oppo stalker?
Research had established that Farrah Fawcett, the Oxted superstar, was indeed playing but in disguise (drastic haircut), forewarned was indeed forearmed!

And so the team arrived bright and early to M.Hill. Poppy was having a good blow on the sideline, DP was good to blow and AJ (Rupert) arrived in perfect time at a slow canter astride his chestnut steed. His breeches causing a stir among the gathered ladies, but he ignored the attention arrogantly.

The match started fairly evenly with both teams looking to dominate. It was end to end action with the midfield of Lbell, Jo, Nicky and Amelia working up and down the pitch and in and out of the attacking D. Unfortunately, the building pressure didn't tell and despite Amelia's 1 handed dribbles, Jo's thrusting stick and Nickys deep penetration they couldn't make the chances count.
Oxted certainly didn't lie back and as the half developed began to exert their own pressure on the COWs defence through their star player Farrah. Fortunately, COWs were well aware of her skills with a stick and through Leggs taking 1 for the team with her man marking and fine tackles from Whatever, Netty and Howhard they were able to keep her and some strong Oxted forwards at bay. We went in 0-0 at HT.

The 2nd half started much the same, the rain had stopped and whilst Whatever was still moist, she wasn't dripping anymore!
5 minutes into the half another Oxted break was foiled, this time by Netty performing a near perfect pirouette whilst playing the ball mid air and landing in a heap, word is Netty does her best work on her back.
Despite the relentless pressure, COWs played as a team, linking well and with the forwards of Poppy, Sharon and Andrea running the channels, we knew our chance would come. 15 minutes in and Andrea made another penetrating run into the D, she sold the keeper and slipped a square pass to Sharon who coolly slotted the ball in for a 1-0 lead. We were orgasmic!
Heads up, Oxted would not be beaten and despite being firmly in Leggs pocket for most of the game, Farrah drove through the COWs defence and struck a rocket at goal. Lisa P 1 on 1 with their star player threw herself to the floor with a worldy of a save and kept her legs firmly shut!
We continued to defend, short corners came and went, Netty dived at the ball forgetting that was Lisa's job and was swiftly chastised. We saw the game out, another great 1-0 win for the Ladies 2s who sit 3rd in the league.
