We drew 0 - 0 Match report by Bronwyn
The match saw the return of our prodigal double barrelled sistas Helen Rowe-whatever and Vicky Fullerton-whatever. Back from injury and illness our stalwart defenders helped provide a strong 13 women squad to face the Cheam kids.
It was a lovely early start, which we all enjoy, as we get to have the whole afternoon to ourselves! After early morning grumbling and downing enough coffee we found ourselves pitch side.
The match started strongly enough with some good runs down both the left and right. We had a number of PC'S which we frustratingly were unable to convert. We continued to dominate play for most of the first half and there were a number of cracking shots into the D but again we could not score.
The highlight was some loud cheering from Becky's son George, who even had pom poms and was generous with his shouts of 'c'mon Jo', who was clearly the favourite.
Cheam came back in the second half - well their one good player made some solid runs, but thanks to our ever solid sistas in defence and some fancy footwork from Lisa we didn't concede.
The match continued in much the same fashion with a few more PC'S and no goals.
We had our chances, but in the spirit of a new year we allowed Cheam their first point as in the end it was a disappointing nil all draw in a match we all knew we should have won.
But at least we had the teas to look forward to! We're in posh Cheam ya know (they have a Waitrose). We were all excited by the prospect of some warm tucker to raise spirits . Alas, it was not to be, as the Cheam hockey club seemed to be experiencing some budget cuts. As much as we love cheese, the sarnies and crisps were pretty lame. Where's my roquefort I say! Vicky was caught trying to smoke a chipolata (oh yeah they had them too).
Anyway let's just say that it's noted and Cheam will be unlikely to get the pizza treatment on their return visit. Bah!
