Dominant 4-0 win

After last week’s brilliant win the ladies 2s crawled over to the Tiffin pitch for a ludicrously early 10am push back determined to continue their winning streak.

We had a pool on how many goals we were going to win by (by the way Poppy was right). We had new blood Krysy plus two new short corner routines – things looked positive.

We started off strongly with fire in our bellies, alcohol in our veins and cheese in our guts. We held most of the possession with Kirsty pinging it off the post for the second week running. This week though the defense was tested. Some solid work from Leggs, Netty and guest back Broni, with some fab saves from Lisa denied the oppo from spoiling our clean sheet. It was looking like nil-nil when the end of the first half loomed until Netty “ran” up the pitch, got a nosebleed and cracked the ball to Poppy who fluffed a pass in the D to Kirsty who then fluffed it past the keeper. We weren’t entirely sure whether we should actually high-five that one. In order to restore our forward pride we finally got a goal off a short corner from Leggs injecting and Kirsty’s clean strike as the first half whistle blew.

Team talk at half time focused on picking out some of the great play we wanted to see more of – amazing use of back passing to switch the ball around the sides and really improved calling. We also highlighted some great play by Krysy who was really causing the oppo’s defense problems. The second half started with clinical focus. Mid-Surrey were determined to claw back the difference but they had no chance partly to do with Netty taking out the oppo’s forward with a reverse stick tackle to the shin. The third goal came from Jo cracking a long ball up the wing to Poppy who has never (and probably never will again) sprinted so fast in her life to get on the end of it she then got into the D and showing her burgeoning transition into a forward, selfishly didn’t pass to Claire or Kirsty and popped the ball through the keepers legs (on purpose). To cap off the game Lydia assisted the assister (Sue) who crossed beautifully to Jo who got the goal off the defenders stick.

This win demonstrated the week on week progress and development as a team. Although we joked about a 12 person POM every player showed massive improvement and worked incredibly hard. Honourable mention to ump Fordy. Bring on our cup game next week!

Moment of the match was Broni smashing a beautiful ball straight into a bin at the side of the pitch.
