Well I voted myself MOM as I was desperate to write a match report as I haven’t done one yet, plus I did spend a few minutes running round the house in search of my blue socks, then spotted them on my feet......
It was a beautiful sunny day, although there was a chill in the air so I was glad of my base layer. The warm up was amazing with extra yoga positions which made us very calm, collected and focused ready for the match.
The first half started with quite a lot of play in our defensive half but once we settled down it was much more even play. They had some strong players but our whole team managed to mark them effectively and they were not able to capitalise on their passes.
Today we moved as a unit up the pitch and there was some great central passing among Alex, Nicky and Becky, passing out wide to Biryani to do some wonderful runs down the line. Balls were being fired into Rach and Tani , who were in excellent positions, nearly scoring a number of goals.
At last in the second half, we were rewarded by a pass from Alex up to Rach who was 1 on 1 with the keeper but kept her cool and swept it into the goal.
Although there was constant switching from their forwards, Dicko, Santy, Lbell and Emer kept communicating with additional calling from Lena and Lisa P to mark them beautifully.
Lisa P made some expert saves and the defence calmly swept balls out of the D. Lena made a number of her trade mark interceptions and ran the ball up the whole pitch.
We kept our shape and concentration and continued to battle, without panicking, up until the final whistle. It was with great relief and happiness that we left the pitch.
The spread of POM votes demonstrate that everyone played really well and it was a well deserved win, hooray!
