We drew 0 - 0 Report by Emer

Friends, COWs, countrymen and women, lend me your ears, I give you a game in three acts.

Prologue

Two teams, both alike in dignity, in fair (but cold and rainy) Croydon, where we lay our scene. From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, as one team holds fast to first place, the other fights bravely forth.

Act I

To the pitch the troops did cometh. Some without stick, but no matter, that twas not deemed a MOM-worthy an error. Meantime, in a somewhat hungovereth state a fair maiden made the mistake of confessing their confusion over the "L" embroidered on each hockey sock, wondering to thine self (outloud) where might the right be? To be true, twas an innocent remark to which many admitted they too had had. But no matter, perhaps the lady doth protest too much...

Act II

One might have thought to beware the Ides of Epsom, but once the whistle doth blow, mighty COWs cometh out with no need to heed such warning. The team played as a team, looking for passes, making smart passing, and keeping it together.

Nicky and Lydia held strong the centre of the field, receiving, running and distributing the ball in bedazzling fashion. The oppo scoundrels were not impressed-eth, so came fast and strong. Thou shall be stopped said the defence of LBell, Santy, Lena and Emer, determined were they that no goal shall pass - and any heart-racing chance was skillfully stopped by Lisa P in net.

[insert battle scene heard off stage, a cow a cow a kingdom for my cow, yudda yudda yudda]

The whistle went to signal intermission, and we reflected on the empty score card perchance thinking to thine self, Oh Lizzy and Bryony, where for art thou?

Act III

This was indeed the winter of our discontent as cold rain fell progressively harder as the game went on, making the surface slippery. So slippery that one brave Becky warrior found herself on the ground a few times - the most epic of which saw her take down a knave from the opposition so hard her headband flew right off. When she was on her feet Becky's dribbling skills left opposition in the dust up and down the left side. On the right, Dicko had an absolute smasher of a game.

Double double, short corners were no trouble. Both teams had plenty, but neither could convert.

The forward line of Hannah, Tani and Rachel made run after run after run and anon. There was for but a brief moment a fear rogue Bartholomeusz might bite her thumb as the ref, but nay, she bit her tongue.

To win or not to win, that was the question on every players' mind as the clock counteth down with the oppo in our end. They pressed with all their might but were met with fight, scoreless the game did end. 0-0 means the team remains unbeaten in 2018. Huzzah!

Epilogue

To thine own self be true, a wise gentleman from this fair country once said, and to COWs self all were true, making POM votes a truly tough time as everyone without exception played extremely well.

However, some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them and so our valiant goalie emerged victorious in POM votes.

In summary, if hockey be the food of life, play on!
