It was a grey drizzly day as COWs trekked all the way out to the fancy schmancy Surrey sports complex, the site of last year’s nail-biting season finale. With the furiously-fought victory still in our minds, we were determined to come out strong and show them what we got and how we’ve grown. Unfortunately they showed us first as the many fit young opponents descended in swift swarms and found the back of the net first. However, we did not hang our heads, we did not retreat, instead we retaliated with two from the Croydon Crusher – who incidentally was suffering from two ailments and probably should have been in bed recovering, but you never woulda known. The first half ended with a score of 2-1 for the good guys. On to part two. Everyone played a strong second half keeping the opposition at bay despite their many breakaway attempts and we maintained the current score. There were amazing moments great teamwork and wonderful passing – looked like practice way paying off and we were becoming well-oiled machines. So much so that there it was difficult to procure MOM votes because the team all played that well. Hannah, Tani, and Rachel made great runs and created opportunities; Nicky and Lydia were super solid in the centre distributing passing coming up from Santy, LBell, Dicko, Becky and Leggs; Emer and Lena stayed strong at the back; and Mrs B made stellar saves. Everyone worked hard the whole game and just kept trucking…truly two half hockey. Thank you to Martin for umpiring and for our lucky charm supporter section of future-hockey-star-George, Colin, James, and Tani’s grandmother.
