We lost 4 - 3 Report by Nicky

Ladies 1s turned up nice and early to Blenheim high school, standard it was raining and the usual ‘is it baseboard weather’ had been asked. It was the first game after the half term break. The league are very nice to give us 2 weeks off to look after our kids!

We had a patchwork team, with a dodgy knee, a dodgy cough, dodgy lurgy and dodgy fitness! But us mighty cows stuck together!

This was not quite a game of 2 halves but definitely felt like 2 different games in one! We started off strong, passing round the back with Lena, Emer, Lydia and LBell controlling the defence and making strong line passes where Hannah Rachel and Forsh were making great leads into the channels! Alex and Nicky were controlling the midfield, with Bryony and Dicko having lots of room left and right! We kept the pressure on and finally it paid off as Rachel snuck one in. We went into HT at 1-0 up!

Great inspiring team talk from coach and we all were looking to start the second half again, as everyone knows. We play second half hockey!
Alas not today... the second half started in slow motion, everything felt much heavier, our legs, our lungs, our sticks! And Epsom pounced on this 1-1!

Nap time was over and we dug our heels in deep, and 2 quick goals. A great upright reverse from Hannah (even the coach agreed) and a lovely sweep at a short corner from Bryony. 3-1.

After asking how long was left, we knew it was going to be the longest 20 minutes of our lives!

The captain then showed her team how not to tackle and ‘breaking down play’ was probably not the cleverest thing she’s done. As she was given her marching orders for 2mins! Also her first ever card for the club somehow?!

With our lungs getting smaller and our legs getting heavier it felt as if Epsom was getting fitter.. and they punished us for it.. 3 quick goals in the last 10 minutes.

Final whistle blows. 4-3.

We came off the pitch feeling as though we had been robbed, heads down and heartaches!

But we need to look at the positives, so far in 5 league games we have scored 10 goals and are 7th in the league
Last season we scored 17 goals all season and were in the bottom 3 for most of it.
I’m so proud of how far my team has come and I wouldn’t have it any other way! On to next week and off to Spartans!

Well done to everyone who played and thank you for Ollie for umpiring and Rochie and Joe for coaching and Chalky, Eddie & Callum for coming to support at the end.
