COWHC Ladies 1s vs Spencer Ladies 5s - 07th October 2017

It wasn't a game of two halves... but it was a pre game of two halves of shoes...

We started strong in both halves... something we seem to be doing well at recently... and there were some strong performances including the winning of 50:50s… unfortunately not everything came together to allow us to really push and Spencer were well drilled in their marking, pressure and strategy. It of course did not help if the sweeper and goalkeeper were struggling from a high consumption of alcohol the night before.

Things I learnt in this game:

Ø A hangover can cause delayed thinking time, reaction and crappy hockey performance

Ø Sitting behind a player can encourage them to back their ass into you

Ø Superglue is quickly found in Sainsbury’s if you ask an assistant

Ø Super glue and tape can do wonders for near-death Astro shoes

Ø Supergluing your astros is insufficient to get MOM

Ø A shot onto the inside of the post gives no guarantees of a goal…

Ø However England Hockey should introduce goal line technology to Surrey League Div 3

Ø There is only one loser if you get in the way of a hockey goalkeeper

Ø ‎Spectator(s) on the side of a pitch can and do struggle to stay on her/their feet – whether through pure excitement, or just needing to get out of the way!

Ø Don't ever offer your hairbrush and/or used hair clips to Alex

Ø Goalkeeper kickers can have holes in

Ø Having an aging team gives rise to issues with teas location – ‘preferably not near a loud TV’ is a mandatory requirement

And finally, despite this unsatisfactory performance, this team has the skills and strength to come back stronger and better…. Bring on the next game!
