We won 1-0

Umpire : Jay
Team: Mrs B Lena Chloe Santy DIcko LBell
Alex Lorraine Emer Rachel Amelia Sally Poppy

Pass back started late after the mens 6-1 victory at CHS and we were up for it from the off, last weeks defeat forgotten. Alex as usual was flying all over the place and marking all lost souls as well as putting in some excellent forward propelling moves to get us to where it mattered (she has a new fitbit you know!). The oppo were skill full but when we slowed down and got our passing right we looked good and in control.

LBell and Santy were a solid line of defence down the left and worked in harmony. Lena was back to her old self, freed up again with our 4-4-2 formation which suits us better we think. Emer was solid and focused in mid field picking up through balls, even after copious amounts of fine wine and food in Mexico; a cross some of us would like to bear!

Mrs B was on fire (not literally of course) and did some cracking saves again and again even when under pressure from Epsom who had come in close to see if they could bully their way through. Some excellent clearances and exceptional sliding went on in both halves. Epsom had a number of shorts that they failed to utilise, well done to our defence.

Rachel as ever was her acrobatic and uncompromising self. A double footer off the ground lunge at another player and the ball got her blown up and a free hit to the oppo along with the explanation from the lovely Jay “Rachel, both feet were off the ground when you put in that tackle..”.
Dicko did some superb marking and along with Chloe held the Epsom attack at bay time and again. Great running ladies to get back when it really mattered and some lovely passing around the 16 yard line. Sally worked hard trying to create chances up front and was red faced and sweaty just in time for her close up!

Our glorious goal came in the 2nd half after repeated attempts that saw LBell in the D and Lorraine trying to create space and blast the ball in for the forwards to utilise. All to no avail until the short set piece (different to the first few ladies) that saw Alex receive the ball and then pass to her left. Amelia was there to deftly shove it straight across with a satisfying thud into the back of the goal. Apparently this hadn’t gone to plan during training but we proved the try, try, try again method and got a well deserved goal.

Epsom were a tough opposition, but thank the ‘God of Small Things’ we were the victors. Onwards and upwards ladies, lets keep up the momentum.

Thanks again Nicky for shouting and encouraging from the sidelines.
