We won 2 - 1 Report by Tim

Dancing on Ice; 6 performances left

COWHC 2’s - 2 vs 1 - CTVHC 1’s

Anyone who tunes into ITV at 2.30 on a Saturday know the most important thing is to give a performance that earns the full 3 points from the judges. COWHC did that yet again this series.

The mood was set, the dry ice was being pumped out, and out of the tunnel emerge a hungry COWHC side. The lights go down and we all hear the familiar, but wonderful, dulcet tones of Bill Medley and an extraordinary amount of synth…
(Play the following link while reading the rest please: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4BQLE_RrTSU )

With grace, with poise, the COWHC started and immediately settled into a rehearsed routine in which they were set to dominate possession. Sam ST(D) Thompson and Steve “CAN EVERYONE PLEASE CALM THE F*** DOWN” McKeown begin the first of many transfers around the ever-calm and composed back 4. Raj, Neil and Dawesy all featured, but really the early part of the routine was to see a repetitive left-right, left-right, cha-cha, cha-cha. With flamboyance and sparkling spandex JD and Ash drift onto the ice and add some wonderful pirouettes to demand attention in mid-field. CTVHC didn’t know where to look, and indeed the ever-graceful Ollie H drifted into centre-stage unnoticed. Upon receiving the ball he found himself ice-o-lated (sorry), but with deliberate movements he slid-free and managed to find a short corner mid way through the performance. The music builds, the crowd gasp, and we reach the portion of the routine most practiced. ‘Cool’edge glides the ball to a corner of the ice no-one expects, where Joe ‘slip-n-slide’ Hyatt crisply launches an effort sure to beat the other skaters, but not to be out-done, Kai ‘can-you-believe-he’s-poached-another-one’ slots the mid section of the routine home. 1-0

So far some members of the group have been only observing and practising their toe-jumps and axels, and therefore when given the opportunity to enter the routine they do so with gusto. Callum ‘triple-toe’ Chaundy decides he wants to impress the judges…. he doesn’t. 1-1.
The interval arrives and the audience leave the arena for their 9th refreshment of the show. Thanks for coming Hoops, Corny, Terry et al, and keeping the tone of the performance as calm as ever….

Jay ‘camel-spin-Captain’ Patel (look it up) offered his technical advice on how to execute the second half of the routine with the necessary flair to impress the judges sufficiently to get all 3 points. Wise words from a seasoned performer.

As with all euphoric experiences, most of the rest of the routine went unnoticed until the music builds again, gathering momentum down the right hand side of the rink where ‘Cool’edge is flirting with opposition skaters, tempting them to skate into his space. The deception complete he throws everything he has across to JD who slips, falls, but nails the rest of the move. 2-1.

Most groups might start to get nervous towards the end of their big routine, but not this group. As if it were any 10 minutes they’ve performed in their life, they continued the rest of their performance to the final lift where the judges award them the full 3/3. The audience applaud, the lights fade down. They stay top of the judges leaderboard and look forward to next week’s opportunity even more.

Questions will be asked of the transfer deadline day policy.
