COWHC Men's 2s vs Sunbury and Walton Hawks Men's 3s - 12th November 2016

We began our Saturday with a meeting in the Croydon High Cafè. Jay began the proceedings with a motivational team talk; Steelers and Mikey B chipped in too. Bash, thinking outside the box, recorded those inspiring words on Facebook Live. What a champion. We were ready to smash Sunbury.

Sunbury turned up with 13 players. 5 Halflings (Hobbits) and 7 Men. The hobbits were carefully located across the midfield. The Shire Folk had good skill and composure on the ball. Slippery buggers they were. Ask Gandalf #Steelers.

1st half was positive. We created numerous chances to give us a comfortable lead; however we failed to put any of them away. Thanks Jay! Then the inevitable happened, Samwise Gangee scored. We were 0-1 down at half time.

Half time team talk. 0-1 down and we looked “Glum.” Gandalf wasn’t happy. He screamed to us all; in doing so he awoke our inner beast mode!!!

2nd half began with the Hobbits having a few chances. Luckily our D-Unit was able to smash those Halflings around. In particular Mikey B squaring up to a 15 year old boy. Blimey he’s hard. Tezza at the back made some great saves!

And then it happened. Jay made a break. Indy made a lead. Jay passed to Indy. Indy is now one on one with the keeper. Jay didn’t give up. Jay carried on running to get the rebound in case Indy missed the goal. Indy thought he would miss the goal so he passed it back to Jay. Jay smashes it into the back of the net. 1-1.

The Hobbits were now on the back foot. We were creating chance after chance. 3 minutes to go. We get a short corner courtesy of Rob’s hard graft. Bash steps up and drag flicks it. Their Sweeper stops it on the line with his leg. P FLICK! Bash claims it. Big pressure. 3 minutes left and we needed these 3 points. Had he missed this flick he would have been Dick of the Day for the rest of the season. But no! He slotted it away!!! 2-1!!

We kept our nerve for the remaining few minutes and the 3 points were now ours!!! What a victory. We sent those Hobbits back to the Shire of Sunbury. #Undefeated
