Sometimes things go your way, sometimes they don't.
It was a cold, wet and windy Saturday afternoon when the 4s made the trip out to Guildford for a match under the floodlights. The opposition were the only team to beat us home and away last season, so we were determined to put that right. The conditions weren't fantastic, but the rain did at least hold off for the duration of the match... possibly the only bit of luck we did have.
It was quite an even game to start with, both sides playing some nice hockey. I can't remember who struck first, but I have vague recollections it might have been Guildford as one of their young players slipped his marker and was picked out totally free in the D. He had plenty of time therefore to pick his spot and finish past Phil.
Our goal came from a quickly taken free hit just outside the 23, which Scott drilled into the D where young James got the crucial deflection into the goal. 1 - 1
And then a bit of bad luck. On one Guildford attack their player received the ball in the D and, despite the close attention of one of us got his shot away... which flicked off the defender's shinpad, wrong footed Phil and ended up in the goal.
2 - 1 at half time.
The second half was again very even, Phil pulled off a couple of good saves to keep Guildford out, while at the other end we created a couple of quarter and half chances, but nothing ran our way.
So once again Guildford's hoodoo over the COWs held and we ended up on the wrong side of the scoreline.
