COWHC Men's 3s vs Leatherhead Men's 2s - 10th Mar 2018

Saturday came and it was an away game at Leatherhead. A bunch of us turned up at the clubhouse for the meet time fresh for the game. Cocksy turned up bleary eyed after a heavy Friday night. He was warned by yours truly to “Stay Low” the evening before, however: “I finished a bottle of Chardonnay by myself!” Cocksy seemed very proud of himself. As if it was an achievement. He did however make up for this by buying a bottle of Port after the game! Good recovery!

The game got under way and Leatherhead started very strongly scoring a well taken Short Corner. 1-0 down. We then fired back immediately with our own short corner. A well taken routine; Hutchy hitting it to Mulley who deflected it into the net. 1-1 inside the first 12 minutes.
25 seconds left of the half. Their CF is one on one with Terry. He slips past Terry. Terry wasn't having it. He decided to swipe out the CF’s legs. A great act of bravery from Terry. However it was all for nothing as Leatherhead were awarded a P Flick and Terry got the yellow card. (OUR GOALIE GOT SENT OFF!! And he didn’t get DoD for it, outrageous.) They scored the flick and we were 2-1 down at half time.

Mulley stepped up to go in goal whilst Terry was filing his nails on the sideline. Which was very frustrating as Mulley was our best outfield player on the day. He then made a worldie save with his leg wearing NO KEEPER PADS. Some call him crazy, some call him mad. I think he’s just semi r******d…. But our r*****!

With Terry fresh from the nail salon, we had 11 players back on the pitch and scored immediately. 2-2 Steelers slipping it to Indy in front of goal who slotted it home. Jack Murphy running his socks off in the midfield; he had cuts all over his knees from all the noshing off he’d been doing during his midweek GrindR dates. Lewis running his little legs off on the wing. Ben Burke back in the team had a stormer, it must be his introduction to alcohol paying off! In defence DP was making vital tackles. Hutch had their CF in his pocket, making incredible tackles one on one. Woj was reliable as ever, stepping in front of their attackers to get the ball. Who knew someone as old as Woj could be so quick? Despite being plastered the night before, Cocksy had a very strong game. His body is clearly use to being drunk on a Friday night and able to perform at an optimum level for Saturday's game! Brooksy back in the team had a great game. Terry, well after his mid game break had a great second half.

The rise of Will. Score is 2-2. We win a short corner. Hutch makes the call to let Will try his drag flick. BOOM. He scores. Bottom right. 3-2. Now this is where things get a bit controversial for Mr Cooledge. He makes a great run into the D, he’s through on goal, he pulls his stick back to get ready for the shot, he closes his eyes, he gets a boner. He shoots. He MISSES the ball (He should have got DoD for this!) However no oppo attempted to tackle him, so he winds up his stick again for a second attempt and crashes it into the back of the net. 4-2.
A great win for the team! We are now sitting pretty in 2nd place with a game in hand. Bring on next week!!
