We won 4 - 3 By Jack Fawkes

The battle of Guildford!

Remember, once over!
The 28th of October,
The Masterful Cowhc Seige and plot;
Admiral dp, did lead us
That we should attack and not concede, thus
To a match that will not be forgot!
Dp, Hutch and our companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To tire out the youth Guildford, through high ball speed
Til they were barely alive….

The start, t’was go, go, go!
With the great Mulley firing in low.
To catch the youngsters still half asleep.
And from Mulley, was the match,
With a second sublime turn, stRike, and crash!
Even Further from the enemy’s reach..
A talk at the break
For our climb up the table’s sake..
Said to repeat the punishment that had already been done
But Guildford, they did steal one,
And then it was two!! !
And thus the real battle had begun.

The sky began to Darken,
And dark clouds formed, just above
The young striker Murphy, as he failed to score
But alas, there was a hero,
“ Mulley, Mulley, Mulley” the crowd did cheer- oh,
As he toyed with the young defence, some more!
Our lines, the enemy could not break through,
Not past Woj, Hutch, dp and Chris, too.
And it seemed if the battle would end in a draw,
But keep attacking, we did,
To the cheers of Jenks and the cries of Terry, downwind
And to the displeasure of the other umpire who did not want us to score!
And then, a stroke of fate,
For a great mistake, did the enemy Goalkeeper make,
In conceding a short corner to the great executioner “Hutch”
And up, did Hutch step,
And drew his sword, as the crowd held their breath
And defied their resurgence, with a battle- hardened warrior’s Touch.

But in every great battle, All is not what it seems!
And while imagining lifting the SOHL trophy (again), mid dream,
the men from Croydon did forget;
That after the lead,
The worst thing you can do, is concede!
From the whistle, before the defence is even reset!

So into the final minutes, they did go,
Knowing a furious reception would follow,
From Admiral Dp, should the enemy not be defeat;
The crowd gazed on, merserized,
At how Guildford had survived,
A sustained attack, with warnings they did not heed!
But, from the great poet Mariah’s song;
When a hero comes along, with the strength to carry on,
You cast your fears aside!
And fearlessly attack Cowhc did,
With a strike, and deflection to the ribs,
Of the keeper keeping Guildford Alive!
Into the air leapt the ball,
And who else, but Mulley, stood tall,
To volley into the roof of the net!!
With that, Guildford conceded,
The cease fire whistle blew, and into the bar both sides receeded,
Knowing it was a match they would never forget.
Mulley, the great Hat-trick hero,
Sneakily Avoid a jug!? He did so!..
As the men of Croydon sang on their victory Parade…
They sang: Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!
