We won 6 - 1

So, Christmas is over, we've all opened our presents that cost £24.99 from Argos, ate too much turkey and mince pies and have entered a new year.

After the disappointment of the last match of 2015, things didn't look great for the first one of 2016 when we turned up to see a pitch glistening like a silver machine. It would have been a crying shame for us to have travelled so far, so early for the game to have been cancelled, but the opposition told us that with a bit of white light/ white heat from something called "the sun" and all would be well. We thought they might be telling lies, but they were right and, little wonder, about an hour after the planned push-back time we were walking onto the pitch saying "let's dance".

I think everyone was feeling the break as the game was a bit of a slow burn initially, some of us looking like absolute beginners out there, but slowly the COW Diamond Dogs began to get into their stride. Our first goal came from a well worked, composed, short corner and the second followed thanks to some great pressure by Gihan, who made an interception and combined with the ace of spades himself, Mr Cornwall, to double our advantage.

At half time we caught our breath and decided there was no need to make any changes to our style of play.

We started the second half in much better form than we had the first and swiftly went 4-0 up. However Woking did manage to get a toe hold in the match with some of our defensive positioning turning from ashes to ashes. Phil in goal was such a hellraiser screaming at his defenders that not only did the umpire ask him to calm down, but I think I'll be deaf forever!

Although we were not under pressure completely, when I conceded a free hit around our 25 the space oddity in the rules that meant I couldn't engage the player I had fouled. Instead of complaining as he had done through most of the game prior to that point, the oppo player got straight to his feet, ran the ball into the D and buried a shot past Phil to make it 4 - 1.

Ah, the pretty things are going to hell, Woking may have thought, but Corny and Gihan very swiftly put any thoughts of a Lazarus-like comeback to bed when right from the restart they simply waltzed straight through the opposition defence and restored the 4 goal difference.

And just to prove our boys keep swinging, a 6th goal was added before the end.

Scorers were 3 for rebel rebel Cornwall and one each for the kings of speed (?) Julian, Steelers and Gihan.

I don't know who got the Starman vote for the game, but suffice it to say there were 16 heroes out there.

These could be the start of some golden years for the club, let's keep it going!

POM was Phil for his vocal presence.
