Saturday. We all woke up early for our long commute to our home game... at croydon high. For some the journey proved difficult and late arrivals were no surprise.
With some questionable kit choices (I’m looking at you, Andrea. Who even wears trackies to play hockey when the thermometer’s reading double figures). Nevertheless we started the match with some brilliant play. With a momentary lapse in concentration Kenley managed to slip the ball past our defence to make it 1-0 at half time.
The second half started with the same enthusiasm as the first, we weren’t ready to give up without a fight. With some cracking play up the pitch and a fantastic goal from Sharon we managed to equalise.
The game was a battle up the pitch from goal to goal. With Kenley on the attack Netty did what she does best and went in for a tackle. Unfortunately the enthusiasm was too much and the oppo were awarded a penalty, despite Mrs B’s best efforts they took the lead once more.
Despite our best efforts Kenley managed to slip one more in behind us making it 3-1. We still weren’t ready to give up yet. Despite attack after attack we struggled to get another goal, until, and I’m not sure whether you’ve heard, Leggs only went and managed to score! We were still in the game until the very end giving it our all, but unfortunately the equaliser never came. Nonetheless it was a solid team effort with some fantastic play.
We all know teas are a very important part of the match, and many of our ladies were looking forward to a delightful calorific post-match treat. I slipped away to watch the first Leicester game since the Chairman passed away, and in hindsight it was definitely the right choice; burnt teas and fire alarms don’t sound like much fun to me.
An enjoyable game with a beautiful team. A massive thanks to DP for umpiring, and providing us a beautiful view of his shiny new bruise in an unmentionable place.
Goals: Sharon and Leggs (not sure whether I mentioned that)
