COWHC Ladies' 2s vs Barnes Ladies' 6s - 19th November 2016

Planning for our league fixture against top of the table undefeated Barnes started as soon as last week's match finished and everyone woke up bright and early to face the Twickers traffic. Preparation was high on our list... apart from for Poppy who decided to be fashion forward and turn up with unmatching shoes. We spent the first 15mins focused on Nicky juggling her balls as we ran through our internationally inspired new formation with a highly planned subbing rotation. Never have the ladies 2 spent so much time discussing hockey (in one go anyway!).

A frozen pitch meant a slightly delayed push-back which gave time for Abi to hallucinate a giant spiders web across the pitch - it was the wire that goes across to divide the pitch in two...We are not concerned at all....

When we finally started we were determined to put up a fight. First 15mins we took it to them with a chance in the D but then their onslaught began and never really stopped. Lisa made some incredible saves and the defence assisted with some cracking stops and line clearances but they couldn't keep it up forever. 3 goals coming through in the first and 2 in the second.

On the plus side they didn't completely outclass us and with some more work on our free hits and accompanying moooo-vement they will find us an even more adept and determined opposition when they come to us. They also admitted the score didn't reflect the match and should have been closer to 3-0.

Lisa's acrobatics and directions on the pitch gave her an almost universal POM vote. Leggs took a nasty ball to the ankle, fingers crossed that the ice (in her drink) means it doesn't swell too much!
