Match Report 20/10/18
MoM: Christian Wilkinson
M1s 3 – 7 Epsom
The scene was set. A crisp, sunny mid-October afternoon in the leafy ‘burbs of London. After a very cryptic email detailing the meet location, every player made it to the pitch safely. Having experienced an epic encounter last season, the players turned up ready for a real battle. The team got off to the best of starts going 2-0 up within the first 10 minutes thanks to an excellent penetrating run round the base line from Simon Bird and some first-class positioning by Christian Wilkinson. Epsom recovered from the early setback to bring the score back to 2-2 before the break.
The boys spent two minutes with 10 men after Fabien forgot he wasn’t playing rugby and sent a tackle that Lawrence Dallaglio would have been proud of. The second half began with a deadlock. The score remained 2-2 for 15 minutes before the first major decision was made. Trying to take the game into his own hands, Simon Bird threw his weight around and subsequently took a seat in the sin bin. The score quickly became 4-2 to Epsom while Old Whits were down to 10 men. Epsom scored twice more and after a host of missed chances by Old Whits a goal was finally scored making it 6-3. Just as the game was about to end, Lubo kindly played a onetwo with an Epsom forward at the top of the D for him to then slot it nicely past Rochie into the far corner leaving the score 7-3 to Epsom. While the result was disappointing there were some very nice patterns of play leading to numerous good chances for Old Whits and the signs are positive for the weeks ahead.
