We won 1 - 0 Report by Chris

December rolls in.

The Mighty 4s start the month by facing up to the only unbeaten team left in the league - the Boars of Merton!

This yellow peril rolled into Trinity School ready for action, but they hadn't reckoned on the wounded beast that was to face them. Coming off the back of two consecutive defeats, the 4s were not willing to see it become a hattrick.

While the skip "umpired" the L2, former captain Williams took the warm up.

A solid squad of 14 was present, and started the game strongly. Both keepers had their share of work to cover, but CROWs held very strong. The spine of Dean, Grimsdale and Maundrell through the middle kept things tight, while the others rolled effectively, keeping fresh legs coming through the half.

We were probably slightly unlucky to go in at half time with the score 0 - 0, but both teams had been relatively evenly matched, so it probably wasn't a surprise. The question was, who would blink first?

Early into the second half and we were struck... but it wasn't the oppo that cause the problem. Fordy, chasing a loose ball suddenly pulled up and collapsed to the floor. His calf had gone, end of the first half of the season for him in that one cruel moment!

On came our resident celebrity and duly transferred the Merton forward from Fordy's pocket to his own. Can't pay, then Max will lock you out of the match!

The game ebbed and flowed, and then the moment of magic. Slayer, playing higher up the pitch than he had been in previous weeks, picked the ball up and fed it wide. Jim drove forward and then cut until the D before pulling the ball back for Slayer who, having followed the play, crashed the ball back into the back of the net.

1 - 0 CROWs!

The Boars were wounded and threw everything at us. But try as they might, they couldn't break the 4s resolve.

Time was nearly up when disaster number two hit. Young Adam was unceremoniously dumped on his backside. The cry of "Jillian!" arose, Rocky-like, and we crowded round to find him clutching his ankle. Player number 2 out until January.

Another reshuffle of personnel, but the yellow tide broke on the blue wall time and again over the remaining minutes to leave the Mighty 4s as the victors.

Goal - Slayer
POM - Killer (honorable mention to Jillian)

Thanks to Lydia and Leggs for umpiring.
