We won 6-2.

It was a relatively early start and the first challenge of the day was having to unexpectedly de-ice the windscreen before heading over to Epsom.

The second challenge came soon after. Trying to find the pitch. The sat nav took us to an old people’s home at the end of Old School Lane but no sign of the pitch. A few eagle eyes managed to spot a sign saying “Hockey Pitch This Way” which led us through a building site and after a maze of portacabins, portaloos and temporary fencing we found our way out to the pitch.

Whilst the ladies finished their game on the pitch the COWS had a somber moment recording some Remembrance Sunday messages, unfortunately Dav struggled to get the words out as one of the words had more than one syllable. A prematch circle of bants led to Charlie getting his 3rd nipple out and Monty telling us about how he kicked Kylie out of bed.

At this point we realised that stand in skipper Cocksy was missing - turns out he was round the corner in Sainsbury’s still doing his shopping. It is also worth mentioning why Cocksy was having to fill DPs shoes. Cocksy had left him in the baby aisle in Sainsbury’s buying gifts for the baby shower that he was going to! Baby shower? What sort of man goes to a baby shower?

The game was ready to start, however, one of the residents of the aforementioned old people’s home had gotten lost and decided to walk onto the pitch wearing a yellow jumper that he had recently found in Oxfam. Turns out that he also had found his glasses there too. Should have gone to spec savers!

Anyway the game got off to a shaky start - the Epsom attack rattled our defence for the first few minutes and unfortunately a disorganised defensive short-corner saw us concede a goal. This only spurred us on further and wave after wave of counter attacks saw us move the pressure down the other end of the pitch and Pads scored a couple of goals within a few minutes. Two more goals and we went into half time with a 4-1 lead.

The rest of the game was a bit of a blur, partly due to me just following what ever orders Monty was barking at me and secondly all my energy was focused on trying to breath.

When we played our type of hockey, playing the ball round the back and short sharp passing to sticks, penetrating down both wings we looked according to Jenks like Barca - I think he may have forgotten to take his medication but we will still take the compliment.

Goals were scored by Pads x 2, Charlie x 2, Indy and Mulley.

Man of the match pretty unanimously went to Scaramanga.

Despite there being other very worthy contenders I ended up with DoD.

The unanswered question remains.....

But why?
