So what can we offer you? If you’re looking for money or fame I’m afraid you’re in the wrong place. However if you’re looking for regular competitive hockey, a strong club spirit and a thriving social scene then you may have struck gold.

The best way to give the club a try is to come along to our free training. Beginners very welcome!

Q: Who are we?

A: Croydon & Old Whitgiftian Hockey Club, merger in 2010 of Croydon Hockey Club founded in 1905 and Old Whitgiftian Hockey Club. Our emphasis has always been on enjoying ourselves both on and off the Hockey field!

Q: Where are we?

A: We use several Astroturf pitches for training and match days, all handily situated for Croydon, Purley, Addiscombe, Kenley, Norbury, South Norwood, Streatham, Tooting and Mitcham, so if you live in South London or Surrey we’re not too far. And our clubhouse is Whitgift Sports Club on Croham Manor Road in South Croydon.

Q: What we do?

A: Play Hockey! We currently have 8 teams made up of 3 ladies teams and 4 men’s teams playing competitive league hockey as well as a mixed team who play friendly matches against local teams.

The Ladies and Men’s teams play on Saturdays in competitive leagues at various different standards.

Our mixed team play on Sundays and there are a number of one day tournaments throughout the year, so there is something for everyone.

Most games are played on Astroturf pitches, although our Mixed team play some of their games and tournaments on grass.

We also enjoy each others company. Our regular social events are the stuff of legends! Events like pub golf, quiz nights, school disco, retro games night and ladies auction. We also have a formal dinner dance every spring to celebrate (or commiserate) the end of each season and to present trophies in recognition of team and individual achievements.

Q: What if I’ve never played before?

A: Don’t worry! Our men’s 2nd team Captain was a complete beginner when he joined a few years ago. All we ask for is a desire to play, to learn and to enjoy. New players of any ability are always made welcome.

Q: Who runs the club?

A: The club committee meet regularly to ensure the fixtures, finances and fun are well managed. Our team Captains represent their players & members on the committee, so everyone is involved.
