To all members of this fantastic hockey Club.
I’d like to welcome everyone to the start of the new season which we all hope will be one of the most successful in the Club’s history both on and off the pitch. A great deal of work has been done by the Committee since the end of last season to ensure that we are able to continue to drive the Club forward. A change to the structure of the Committee has already started to help divide the considerable workload that running a Club of this size takes and I think that we can already see improvements in training, our social media presence and general organisation. If you have ideas and suggestions that will help keep the Club moving forward, please feel free to share them with any member of the Committee. To members of the Committee - thank you for your commitment and hard work - you’re an amazing group.
Most importantly, this is meant to be fun. I would encourage you all to play this game to the highest standard that you want to achieve and always in the right way - hard but fair. On the pitch let’s respect our team mates, the officials and the opposition and let’s make friends wherever we go. Off the pitch, we will have more social events than ever before and please do get involved as much as you can. They’ll all be great fun and a lot of work goes into getting them organised. For the first time ever we are running a weekly Fantasy Hockey competition which will also be great fun to be involved in and will help us all get a broader perspective across the Club. Thanks to Indy for taking this forward - you’re a legend.
It’s great to see so many new players joining our Club across all sides, but I am particularly pleased to see an influx of new lady members and several new faces slotting straight into the Men’s 1’s. Welcome to all new members.
Lastly, please respect each other, all other Whitgift Sports Club players and visitors as well as the Club’s neighbours.
Here’s to a great season. Keep it classy.
