P6 Promotions2 D0 L4

It was a weekend of crunch matches, some went our way, others didn't...

Let's start with those that did. Delighted to say that both Men's 3s and 4s won their games to earn promotions.

The Men's 3s, top of the league, were like a pack of wolves hunting down their meek prey against Spencer. An outstanding performance to beat a team 4-0 who were second in form only to ourselves. Next year we move into Surrey Open Div 2. We have just one more win to secure the league title, but we'll be aiming for 3 wins from 3 games to finish off in style. Top of the league by 1 point with 2 games in hand over 2nd placed Sunbury.

The Men's 4s, top of the league, romped past bottom of the table Leatherhead to secure promotion. 6-0 up at half time it could have been a cricket score but the nice play eluded us and it ended just 7-0. Horley in 2nd beat 3rd placed Guildford in order to stay in touch but just one more win will secure the league title for us. Top of the league by 4 points, 3 games to play and a game in hand over 2nd.

The Ladies 1s played Spencer, and despite another good performance lost 2-1. And so it comes down to final game of the season, we're currently in 9th and play 8th in the next game with a chance to leapfrog them with a win.

The Ladies 2s lost to Oxted 4-1, who were 2 places below us going into the game. We remain a solid mid table in 5th. With two matches remaining we'll be looking to turn around a bad run of form and find the winning formula again.

Men's 1s went into this crunch game against fellow promotion hopefuls Sunbury knowing they didn't have best availability. Unfortunately Sunbury proved too strong, winning 4-1. London Eds now in 3rd won their crunch match away in Andover. This leaves us 2nd by a point from Sunbury who are top by a point and we are just 1 point ahead of London Eds in 3rd who have played same number of games.

The Men's 2s always knew they had a tough match against an Old Cranleighans who had won 14 out of 15 matches this season. We lost 8-0, although the scoreline may not reflect the competitive nature of the game. In fact OC's in their match report praised us for not going to there's and just parking the proverbial bus, we at least tried to take the game to them, for which we can be proud. Still with a slender outside chance of promotion, we need results to go our way and for us to win all remaining 3 games.
