Unfortunately there are certain costs associated with running a hockey club, which is why we have to ask you to pay a hockey subscription. This sub is made up of two parts: the Playing Section and the OWA. The Playing Section specifically pays for costs relating to:
- Insurance
- League affiliation fees
- Entering the cup
- Goal keepers’ kit (they begin to smell after a while if not replaced!)
- Water bottles, balls, cones, bibs and other misc training/match day gear
- Plus any advertising and other special events also add to the club costs
The sponsorship that has been raised has gone to help keep the cost of players’ shirts as low as possible.
The OWA membership is that which helps to pay for the upkeep of the clubhouse and bar. Costs include:
- Maintenance of clubhouse
- Electricity
- Water
- Rates
- Grounds maintenance
- Staff wages
Match fees are also vitally important for ensuring the club can run. The money collected here goes towards the cost of hiring of the astroturf pitches for games and training, which makes up the majority of the overall spend of the club (as seen by the accounts prepared each year). The amount raised just about covers the overall cost of the Astroturf hires for the playing season.
It is essential that all members contribute, even if you’re not going to play a full season please talk to us rather than avoiding the issue. We’d prefer that you play so we’ll try our best to sort out an agreeable situation.
We offer discounted rates for those who pay by Direct Debit and have 3 main category of member:
- Full hockey member
- Concessionary (university, student, services)
- Under age of 24 and Over 60s – discounted rates
