GB Ladies win Silver at Champions Trophy

Congratulations to the GB ladies on winning Silver at the Champions Trophy in Argentina.  They narrowly lost out to the hosts and current world champions 1-0 in a hard fought final where the GB ladies just ran into a quicker opposition who were very hard to break down.  It was a great effort by all the ladies and I’m sure they’ll use it as fuel to train even harder for Gold at London 2012.

COW 4TH XI – COW 3RD XI -0 – 5 L

Games between these 2 teams in the last year in the league have always been hard fought close affairs and this one was no different especially in the first half.

Although the 3s passed the ball about better than the 4s there was not a lot between the teams in the first half with both teams giving the ball away too easily in promising positions. The 4s should have scored first when James Granata was put through on goal but a desperate diving tackle kept him out. The 3s scored near the end of the half when the 4s defence failed to clear the ball cleanly.

Epsom 6 XI v Croydon & Old Whitgiftian 4XI – 5 – 0 L

A very hard game against a good passing hard tackling team who gave nothing away but the team did not deserve to lose by 5 goals to nil.

We held them for long periods of the game with some very stout defending. Their first goal came well into the first half and we always looked dangerous when we broke quickly. It was very unfortunate that near the end of the half a fluky goal put them 2 up when the ball was deflected off a defender’s stick and ballooned up in the air into the goal.

Croydon & Old Whitgiftian 4TH XI v Old Reigatian 3RD XI – 5 – 2 W

Apart from last week the 4s had threatened to start winning some matches and this week they succeeded.

Some early misses were soon forgotten once Dan beat the goalkeeper with a good shot from the edge of the circle to record his first goal for the team. Old Reigatians soon drew level from a short corner but goals from Jon from a short corner and Chris sent us happy into half time with a comfortable lead.

Croydon & Old Whitgiftian Ladies 2′s vs Horley 1′s – 4-2 Win

I think it’s fair to say that we aren’t really a bunch of early birds. 12 rather sleepy ladies turned up to a frosty pitch in Crawley at 9.30am for a bottom of table clash with Horley. We badly needed the points to move us up the league table out of the dreaded relegation zone. We snoozed through much of the first half of the match, until realising we had somehow

Croydon & Old Whitgiftian 1s vs Wanderers 1s

Usain Bolt.  We need to talk.  You have an issue.  We have an issue. The thing is we seem to be coming from the opposite end of the spectrum and can definitely help each other out.  Your problem is you’re too fast out of the blocks.  This has led to you losing out on a guaranteed 100 metres gold at the recent world championships.  We on the other hand don’t seem capable of coming out of the blocks Continue reading

Croydon & Old Whitgiftian 3s vs Camberley and Farnborough 4s

Croydon & Old Whitgiftian 3s 4 – 1 Camberley and Farnborough 4s

After an hour long drive with delays on the M25 and a winless streak sitting at two lingering in our minds, we were looking to get back into the win column and continue the quest of moving up the table. With a bright start, Jim Swift was lead down the right wing with a well-placed pass from Alan Johnston. Swifty picked out the far corner of the goal from just inside the D to make it 1-0 for us. From there, Continue reading
